It’s everyone’s favourite Tio, Bruno.
The character Bruno can be described in one word, Honest.
From the start, Bruno was a mystery character and I guess we all misunderstood him. That’s exactly what you get by judging a book based on its cover or judging someone based on other’s opinion.
The way I see it, Bruno lived by one ethic. If you don’t want to know what your future holds then don’t ask. Because if I do, I won’t sugarcoat it.
It’s like putting your hand in the mouth of a tiger and hoping it’s not hungry. Bruno did everything Abeula wanted him to
do until she decided he no longer fit into her PERFECT MODEL FAMILY.
And loose links had to be cut.
I imagine this must have hurt Bruno a great amount. His family turned their back on him and no one bothered to look for him or even check if he was still alive. Everyone bent to the will of Abuela.
This was made extremely clear in the Family Madrigal song;
🎶’Let’s be clear, Abeula runs this show.’🎶
I also imagine this feeling must have kept him awake all night. Could this be the reason for the ever present dark circles under his eyes?
Not only his familia but the whole town had something to say about Bruno. Instead of showing appreciation for his honesty they painted him out to be some delusional character and refrained from speaking about him because Abuela might be offended.
They painted this image so vividly that Bruno became anxious and reclusive, he was probably tired of all the whispers in town as he walked past.I know I would.
The character Bruno had a lot of puzzling factors but at the top of that list was why he was depicted with sand.
Isabella was roses to show her perfection, so why was his Sand?
The theory that seemed the most plausible is, sand represents how time is fleeting and shifting just like his powers.
Bruno didn’t spell doom, your actions did.
Bruno could see the future but what everyone forgot was that your actions shaped the future that Bruno saw.
If you want a different fate then take different actions. It’s really that simple.
Bruno was one of those characters who I wanted to wrap in a bear hug, he suffered so much and what made it worse was he had gone through all that alone. A decade or more of his life wasted, spent living in the walls and talking to rats while the world moved on meerily.
That’s enough to drive any sane being crazy.
His pale skin can be attributed to the prolonged lack of exposure to sunlight. Despite all this, he loved his family deeply. He could have easily allowed Mirabel to fall off but he didn’t.
He could have left the house all those years but he chose to stay. And even after everything he went through, he forgave his family in a heartbeat. I doubt I can do that, the pain would be too fresh.
Where am I heading with this?
The point is Society doesn’t appreciate Honesty, Don’t expect them to.
Rather stay true to yourself and loved ones. Be honest, you don’t have to be rude to be honest, you can find nicer mediums to portray your honesty.
I would pick an honest friend any day because I can at least trust your judgement.
We all need a Bruno in our lives. But more importantly,
Are you the Bruno in someone else’s life ?
