Breathe, Live & Smile

There’s something about stuying law that makes you cautious in the presence of every document or contract. Perhaps it’s because one of the fundamental courses you would do in law is the law of contract.

In this course you will go through the tennets of contracts and documents. As a rule of thumb you never sign a contract that you haven’t read. To be taken to the extreme, never sign a document in general that you haven’t read.

Let me share how this helped me in a real life experience.

Recently, I wanted to sign up for this website online to work for them but the sign up page kept glitching. At first, I was frustrated thinking that it was my WIFI that was messing with me. I tried it on my laptop and phone but to no avail.

In my frustration, I decided to browse through the terms and service policy. I just thought about putting my education to practice, you know. So I read through the policy and half way through it, I almost quit but I kept going.

And look what I found on the last page. A clause that stated a breach of this contract will incur a $30k damage on the party.

I almost screamed out when I saw that clause. $30k??

The rate at which I exited that site and cleared it from my browser history.

I was thankful that I had dodged that ball, I didn’t care about the other terms there was no way I was signing up for that willingly.

Closing Remarks.

I learnt a valueable lesson that day, Never again would I sign a document or contract without reading the fine prints.
