Breathe, Live & Smile

I’m in a courtroom.
facing trial,
I’m the judge, jury
and executioner.
however I have no mercy on myself
so I plead guilty.
shaking in my boots waiting for the
gravel to cement my sentencing.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter house
I follow them calmly,

I didn’t do it but
it never mattered what I pleaded, I knew
I would always be found guilty.
They strap me into the chair and then
my breath hitches.
This was really it, I look at all the people
gathered and I could only see my face in
them.

perhaps I shouldn’t fear death so
instead I smile as they ask for my last words,
I utter, ‘ This is nothing’ and welcome
death with arms wide stretched out.
