Everyone talks about how difficult it is to code or learn programming or any other tech related field but hardly do we talk about how difficult it is to be a writer and how competitive the writing industry actually is.
Everyone thinks writing is so easy to do just because a lot of people seem to be doing it however as writers you know there is a difference between good and bad writing and although a lot of people are writers not everyone can write well.
So I’m here to give you some encouragement to never give up your writing even if you are under appreciated in society because the genral populace considers writing to be very trivial.
These are 4 things you should never say to yourself as a writer.
- I’m a terrible writer

This is one of the worst things you can ever say to yourself as a writer because it puts you down and just discourages you from writing especially when you see the works of other ‘great’ writers in comparison to you. Don’t overcritize yourself and instead try to encourage yourself to keep learning.
Instead say : Writing is a very tedious process which takes a lot of practice and everyday I am getting a little bit better at it.
- I do not have any published works therefore I am not a writer.

This again is like shooting yourself in the foot, even though it is essential to have a published work as a writer understanding where you are at on your writing journey will help embrace it.
Instead say: I am a writer who is focusing on other aspects of my writing hoping to publish sometime in the future.
- Nothing I write is good enough

As a writer you might say this to yourself when you have a ton of revision to get through and the task just seems so time consuming that you would rather do anything else. If you do not know, I hate to break it to you but writers don’t always enjoy the editing process. If only every of our work could be perfect just as we wrote it, unfortunately that is not the case hence the need for revisions and editing. But rather than condemn this process, you might find that embracing it actually makes it easier.
Instead say, ‘I have a lot of revision to do and I am grateful for the opportunity to review my work before it goes out to my readers/ target audience.’
- I never come up with great ideas.

As a writer, it’s often hard to come up with enough good ideas at a quick rate inorder to have content to put out across your social media platform, blog or book. But instead of seeing this as a bad thing rather keep your eyes for your next content ideas whether it is when you are walking down the street, or scrolling through social media there is a ton of content idea that you can access.
Instead say, ‘Coming up with great ideas takes a lot of time and effort, however I know that pocess pays off when I see the reaction from my readers, viewers or target audience.
Closing Remarks
A few tweaks in how you speak to yourself everyday as a writer matters a lot. Writing is an art in itself and should be treated that way, it takes immense effort, focus, revisions and at times allowing your ideas marinate for a while. You can send this to your writer friend to remind them to be nicer to themselves and their work.
Do not rush the process or quit prematurely. I love that you read this post up until this point. Please like, comment or share this content if you found this helpful. You can reach out to me via email at writeerspace@gmail.com.
