Breathe, Live & Smile

Heros are everything but let’s acknowledge the fact that without villains we wouldn’t even have heros. Without bad we wouldn’t know what good was. So for today let’s make Disney villains our stars. The Villains teach us from their failure whereas we learn from the heros victories.

Here are 7 Lessons you can learn from Disney’s Villains.

1. ‘If they aren’t into you, Let them go’ from Frollo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame: Frollo was never the man of the hour but he was honourable at the start like all villains are. To achieve the feat of becoming the minister of justice of paris mustn’t have been easy, however his obsession with a fair beauty, Esmerlda made him tear down the same city he helped protect and have his own turn against him. As a side note, beware of anyone who starts to exhibit obsessive tendencies towards you.

2. ‘Think carefully about big decisions in life’ from Jafar in Aladdin: New heights always seem exciting but we hardly ever stop to consider the responsibilities that come with it. Where Scar forgot this famous line from Spiderman, ‘With great power comes great responsibility’, Jafar forgot that more powers comes with more boundaries, power isn’t as freeing as it always seems. Perhaps if he had thought of what turning into an evil genie would cost him, he might have gotten to rule.

3. ‘Loyalty is important’ from Scar In Lion King: If heros need theri band of jolly rogers then trust a villian to have theirs too. Maleficent had her crow or was it a raven? Cruella had her burglars, The evil queen had her henchmen and Scar had his hyenas. Surround yourself with people who see and understand your goal and are ready to stick it out until the very end.

4. ‘Have an honest friend’ from The Evil Queen in Snow White: The Evil queen had her mirror, ‘Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?’ And the mirror will never fail to give her an honest reply. Don’t we all need a companion like this? Perhaps if we did, we wouldn’t have tried pairing their pink shirt with that off range tank top. If mirror wasn’t honest then perhaps Snow white would have kissed her fairytale including the prince and the 7 dwarfs goodbye.

5. ‘Always believe in your dream’ from Captain Hook In Peter Pan: Imagine the adventurous life a pirate lives, I mean Jack Sparrow showed us a lot of that in the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise. You get to explore the seas, capture treasures whilst having fun with your mates and drinking rum. But all Captain Hook wanted to do was defeat Peter pan. If Belle from Beauty and the Beast had Captain Hook’s life she would never have met the beast because of the adventurous life she longed for, she would have gotten. But you know what they say, One man’s food is another man’s poison. We all have dreams and Captain Hook inspires us to go after it passionately even when the odds are stacked against you. You may lose an eye or even a hand along the way but aren’t dreams worth that much passion? There are some dreams worth dying for ask Martin Luther King.

6. ‘Love your curves’ from Urusla in Little mermaid: Urusla should be the poster child for loving your body. Urusla was really out in the deep oceans loving and rocking all her curves because she knew she was beautiful. So this is for all my plus size girlies, lean into your curves, embrace it and look good in whatever outfit you choose to pull.

7. ‘Remember your past’ from Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty: Villains don’t just materialize from thin air. Maleficent really didn’t deserve half of the things she went through. She trusted a human for once and he pretended to be in love with her just for him to rip off her wings whilst she slept. The pain she was in when she woke up. And then you see that this same man become king, get married and even have a baby. Her past was motivation to keep her waiting all those years to exert the perfect revenge. Eventually she had to step out from under that shadow of her past but she never forgot.
