Don’t mistake smiles for invitations to to talk
Don’t mistake hugs for solace
Don’t mistake jabs for jokes
Don’t mistake foes for friends

Recently I was out at a cafe and the table next to mine 2 girls were seated and one was pouring her heart out to other just explaining what she is going through financially and the challenges she was facing, and even though I wasn’t privy to the conversation. From the other lady’s tone (the listener) I could sense some hidden resentment she didn’t seem to care at all about what her friend was going through and even her body language showed it. In my head, I felt so sad for the girl who was talking because if only she knew the person she was speaking to didn’t care about her and she probably didn’t have anyone else to talk to. That was when I had the inspiration for the first line,
“Don’t mistake friendly conversations for friends”
While growing up my mom always taught me never to discuss family business outside and generally to keep quiet as not everything needs to be said.
Everytime a friendship goes south in my life, I can only thank my mom for teaching me not to run my mouth and share my secrets with everyone and anyone who was willing to listen.
Your mom has given you a great life lesson to keep in mind.. so easily we will fall when people do sweet talks.. sometimes just to know our personal stuff, some people project as if they are closer and once they know your in n out then they will show their true colors.. I had this experience recently with a person whom I mistook as a genuine person..
