Breathe, Live & Smile

It’s quite ironic how the Nigerian society picks and chooses who to shower with grace.

Grace, Grace and more grace to the deadbeat father but nothing but shame to single mothers as the chants of “he is still your father” grows louder.

Grace to the rude elders in society while the youths are shunned for their expressions.

Grace to young belligerent boys because they’re still learning and didn’t know any better but condemnation for the young girl because she should know better.

Grace to the bad parents because they’re trying their best but discipline the child for they should be understanding.

Little kids, how dare they have feelings and emotions ?

Grace to the husband for he is the head of the household but no such grace to the wife.

Grace to first-time never present fathers for they are really trying but no such grace to first time mothers because they should already know how to be a great mom.

Grace to sons for their bad behavior isn’t no fault of theirs, their mothers just didn’t train them well but no Grace to daughters because of course they were born with perfect manners.

Grace to unmarried men for they are merely playing the field before they settle down but condemnation to unmarried women for they can never truly be happy.

Grace to rapists for he is only led by his desires but no such grace to victims because “what was she wearing?”

Grace to the male child for he carries on the legacy of the family but no such grace to the female child for of what use can she be to the family?

In the end, you see the patterns clearly of how a society that claims to be oppressed champions nothing but the oppressors.
