You’ll never know.

I think the reason why the message ‘don’t care what other people think of you’ falls short is because it advertises attains this level of nonchalance and confidence that the opinion of others don’t matter. 

This is false or at least not the complete true because the opinions of others matter, just in varying degrees. The opinions of your boss, coworkers, friends and neighbors do matter a great deal after all life isn’t lived in isolation. 

Instead the real reason why you should not care too much what others think is because you’ll never know. Let that sink in. You’ll never truly know what someone else thinks about you. 

Even if they tell you, they could be lying or not painting the whole picture so why bother? Instead deal with your insecurities. Do they think you’re cringe or Do you want them to think you’re cringe because you think so? 

You can’t read minds so stop spending all your time trying.
