Breathe, Live & Smile

Am i the only one who is deeply unsettled by the fact that nothing looks used anymore?
i’m talking phones, shoes, bags… nothing. even actors in movies where their characters has gone through some hardship look so brand new and like they’ve never suffered a day in their lives – insert avatar the last air bender live action remake. not a single stain on those fur coats and we’re supposed to believe that the southern water tribe were struggling due to the effects of the 100 year war??
And it’s sad. We see what’s in my bag videos and it’s literally all unused products each time so is it really your hand bag? cause what’s the point of a what’s in your bag video if you don’t even use the bag or the items you’re displaying.
It’s bad enough everything looks new but then you want to accessorize your way out of building character or a wardrobe. It’s not about buying all the perfect trendy keychains and accessories to “fake” a personality but authenticity building one. You want your birkin to have character like jane’s but you’re afraid to even carry it out? your bag has its own ecosystem, isn’t that over the top?!?
fashion used to be a form of expression through your clothes but now we can’t tell if the man wears the clothes or the clothes wear the man. but how can we possibly explore style when we have boxed ourselves into ~fashion prisons~ aesthetics? when our entire being is reduced to one liners maybe because with social media we must say more with less as the character counts forever decreases. what’s the essence of thinking when we can create mood boards off others and pin our ~their~ styles. so are we drawing inspiration or imitation as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – that mediocrity can pay to greatness.
If Rome wasn’t built in a day, why are you building your closet in one? but it’s more than clothes as you’ll soon see.
Is it consumerism that we’ve gotten so used to changing our phones every year with each new update because come on an iphone 17 just sounds ridiculous, when does it end at an iphone 63?
is that why we never repeat outfits? instead we rush to buy more. We swear we are being mindful but our bank accounts beg to differ. we’re spending way more on a lot more to feel more and it does work for a short while but then we go back and do it all over again. while swearing that drugs are the only addiction.
we’re in the rats race disillusioned that we have choices and the consumer is always right so we buy more and shame past generations for their greed and lavish lifestyles but we’re not so different from them. it makes us happy we say and maybe it does distract us from the bore of ordinary life, we must have something to look forward to for tomorrow is bleak without it.
we want to be authentic but get the same surgeries, shop at the same stores, chase the same fads and then get mad when they accuse us of being clones. we want to be individuals but not on our own.
we complain but fall into the same habits we shame in others, we have a reason so we are right. _ is wrong but … but nothing.
by turning everything into a debate and battle of opinions, we have opened everything up to dialogue and pushing what we do know to the side so the purpose is no longer to educate but to entertain.but it’s all worth it, everybody does it we tell ourselves to collectively share the burden and soften the blow. we forget that humans are the engineers of their own suffering and are capable to great change but no one raises their heads that high to challenge the system for everyone would rather conform than confront because to look the system in the eye is to be met with your own reflection.
